The first time I truly understood how much work was changing globally was in 2017 during a two-week programme I attended in Brazil. We had been grouped into teams across different countries and were expected to collaborate on a project. At one point, someone casually said, "Let's continue from our rooms." I remember being genuinely confused. How exactly were we all supposed to work on the same document at the same time? Then someone shared a Google Docs link. Suddenly, I could see people typing live. Editing at the same time. Leaving comments. Building ideas together from different locations. Today, that may sound completely normal. Back then, it changed how I thought about collaboration. I realised that the future of work was not just about technology. It was about people coordinating work through technology. Many professionals still think of workplace tools as software. Modern organisations use them very differently. They use them as: • Collaboration systems • Workflow systems • Review systems • Communication systems • Visibility systems The tool matters. The workflow behind the tool matters just as much.
