❌ 3 rookie HYROX mistakes that cost you minutes (I've made 2 of 3) 1️⃣ Going out far too HOT - if you run the first 1km as a max effort when you are fresh it will bite you later on. As will trying to PB the Ski erg! Tip: Start slower than you think and know your pacing ahead of the race. 2️⃣ Using kit (shoes, gloves, clothing etc) or supplements that you've not tried and tested in training. Tip: If you are going to get somethig new, make sure you try it in at least 1 training session before race day. If it's supplements allow yourself time to adjust to how you feel consuming them whilst exercising hard. 3️⃣ Racking up unneccessary penalties - these can be from missing or running extra laps, using the IN/OUT arches int he wrong direction, not hitting movement standards or more. Tip: Read the rule book (check my recent rules post for this seasons updates) and keep track of your race throughout. It helps massively to know how you're going to count the run laps (a watch helps here) and also know the layout of the course for that venue. I aim to create 'Map & Laps' reels for each venue ahead of time so check my socials for these during Race Week. Recap... Mistake 1: Pace too HOT early on - build into your race pace over the first 3rd of the event. Mistake 2: Not testing equipment or supps ahead of race day - allow time to test prior. Mistake 3: Picking up penalties you could avoid - know the venue map, the rules, movement standards and track your laps. ✅ I have a full HYROX Novice starter guide to help you if you're new to this 👇🏻 Comment ‘STARTER’ to get the guide.
