This was the watch that made me fall in love with Grand Seiko dials. Yes, the Snowflake is cool, but this is next level. Also really happy to see how well received the Spring Deployant Clasp has been since we launched it a few months ago. It’s always a little scary launching a new product, because you’re never quite sure how people will perceive it. Is there a meaningful improvement over what’s already available, and can people tell the difference? Is it priced appropriately? Is it a product that someone will recommend to others after using it, and to come back and purchase again? Thankfully, after a few months of selling the SDC, it’s clear that the answer to all of the above is a strong Yes! There are still some points to improve on and iron out, but it’s clear that people want a high quality, aftermarket deployant clasp. Interestingly, our first validation of the SDC happened in-store at our showroom, a couple of weeks before the official launch. A customer wanted to add on a deployant clasp to his leather strap, and I showed him the new clasp together with the older Butterfly Deployant Clasp (which is a more generic clasp you could find everywhere else). The price difference between both was stark - $95 vs $20. But after seeing and trying both of them out, he went ahead to buy not 1, but 2 Spring Deployant Clasps. That episode also showed the value of having a physical retail store - gaining valuable customer feedback that would not have happened online. But that’s a story for another time ;) P.S. There’s another SDC that I want to plug, and that’s Screw Down Crown by @kingflum. Hands down the best and most well researched writing on the watch industry there is, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is not just interested in watches themselves, but on the state of the industry, business, psychology, and the occasional gossip and rumour :) It’s a small fee per month, but well worth it.
