Smile Design with Nature in Mind.™ This absolutely lovely patient presented post orthodontic treatment wanting to enhance her smile and improve her gummy smile. It was such an incredible experience working with her since she knew exactly what she wanted. When designing smiles you always have to start with the end in mind. Once you know your destination you can reverse engineer the steps in order to get there. Understanding that smile aesthetics require a perfect harmony between pink and white we called upon our good friend and mentor Toronto Periodontist Dr Jeff Li (@dr.jeffli). Surgical crown lengthening was performed guided using 3D printing technology based on a approved prototype/mock-up. Once the gingiva healed to our predicted architecture the canvas was ALMOST ready for me to craft our lovely patients new smile. First Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) with the @emsdental airflow and in-office professional @philips zoom whitening was performed by hygienist Karen Ng RDH (@kng.rdh). Finally, it was my turn to work my magic. Again we worked backwards utilizing the mock up as a reference to prepare minimally invasive porcelain veneers which were digitally scanned with the @meditcompany i700 intraoral digital scanner. Then I worked tirelessly with our partners at @shawlabgroup to fabricate hand crafted natural porcelain veneers with the correct tooth form that matches the patients personality/character while widening the smile and enhance the shade. Lastly, our thin pieces of hand crafted porcelain works of art were meticulously bonded with @ivoclar variolink esthetic. The goal was to maximize aesthetic outcome while minimizing biological cost. Despite spending a countless number of hours designing, treatment planning, communicating, quarterbacking and personally working on this case with materials/equipment from around the world, I want to take the time to thank this patient for trusting me and my team.
