Ed was Dan’s apprentice and the two immediately got on like a house on fire. When one of Dan’s best mates took his own life in 2015, Dan and Ed knew something had to change. The idea was simple: funky, eye-catching work shirts that start conversations. Social enterprise TradeMutt was born from that simple idea that starting conversations is good for you; that starting conversations about mental health can save the lives of tradies at work. Like we say here at TradeMutt: we create strong connections through vulnerability. That’s why every shirt has ‘This Is A Conversation Starter’ across the back — because that’s exactly what they’re designed to do. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒔? In 2020, Dan and Ed co-founded another business: TIACS. (That’s pronounced “tee-axe”). TIACS is a not-for-profit professional mental health counselling service for tradies, truckies, rural, and blue collar workers. It’s completely free of charge for blue collar workers who want to have a yarn to a professional for whatever reason. People talk to TIACS mostly about relationships but also about financial stress, pressures at work, and even just for some head noise tune ups. 50% of TradeMutt profits are donated to TIACS to keep it free, high quality, and professional. TIACS employs a team of 12 counsellors that are available from 8am to 10pm AEST Monday to Friday via text or call for you to have a chat to.
