Ad text
7 years ago, I set myself a goal to try and double my NHS salary so I could quit my job. It took 2 years but I did it! Summer is always a reflective time for me, because it was the time of year, when I decided to go all in on freelance dietetics or at least see if I could make it work. You see, it was summer 2018 when I lost my lovely mum to leukaemia. And in my grief I experienced an epiphany, it hit me that life really is too short to not be doing something you love every single day. I’d been in the NHS 18 years, I was bored, felt undervalued and unfulfilled. I wanted to feel excited for the day ahead, every day. So every summer I take a moment to check in on the goals that I set for myself at the beginning of the year This year, I wanted to put myself first and prioritise self-care. I wanted to greet the peri-menopause with grace. And I think I’ve done pretty well 👏I no longer work evenings. 👏I have 1-2 days/week which are ‘choice days’ where I choose to work or not. 👏I have weekly beauty treatments, manicure, lashes, facial or a hot stone massage. 👏I’ve lost the peri-menopausal weight gain with the expert help of a dietitian colleague and am back to a size 10. 👏I’m exercising every single week, sometimes twice a week (which is huge for me as I hate exercise) with the support of my fabulous PT and OMG I love my rippling muscles! I’m so in awe of what my body can do! 👏And I even went under the knife for some minor cosmetic surgery to repair my torn ear lobes from wearing silly dangling earrings as a teen! So this year I can honestly say I feel healthy. I feel happy. I feel that I’m truly aging with grace. So my message to you today is this…. Reflect on the goals you set for yourself in January. Have you made progress or even achieved them? And if not, what can you do to help yourself to get back on track? Comment below if this resonates (or if you just like more personal insights from my life as a fully freelance dietitian!)
