2025 has been a tumultuous year with many challenges. Notably the two large group rescues we did. Earlier this year we were financially able (thanks to YOU!!) to come to the aid of a large feral herd that lived in a trailer park. We caught ALL of them and with all the females pregnant we had our hands full. All the mums had their babies in a loving and safe space, and the indiscriminate breeding stopped that day. (will share the video of this rescue in the comments) Not too long after that Animal Control for the City of Los Angeles requested our assistance when what started as a few fun pets free ranging the yard to an out of control population of 400 guinea pigs #LA400 in desperate need. With groups like that it is all or nothing because the absolute first thing that needs to happen is STOP the breeding. I was not sure if financially we had the means to take on another, even larger group. Those few days were pure agony for me especially because there was nowhere for a large group of guinea pigs like these babies to go. I reached out to Bill Gordon the CEO of Small Pet Select and on behalf of these guinea pig I asked him for help. Bill didn't hesitate and made a generous commitment. This had the first part covered and the rest I said to myself we would deal with later. And again - YOU, yes YOU saved those guinea pigs. Guinea Pig People are awesome. We were able to take ALL the females, and babies were born on a daily basis for two months straight. The males were divided up between the 6 city shelters and other local rescues who were involved with this massive rescue. All of u dived right on in got to work Thank you Wee Companions Small Animal Adoption Southern California Guinea Pig Rescue and The Rescue Garden Rescues and other organizations in the USA also stepped because we were able to pay for a transport "train" to bring girl piggies to other save havens such as us. I Had to Say Goodbye to two of my My Darling Buddha Boys LA BAMBA and AUGUSTUS Augustus was at a very advanced age but had up till then been a big and happy little guy. Our vet was not able to diagnose him but figured that there was some issue internally that was slowly stealing his life, bit by heart breaking bit. He passed this summer. Bamba's Arthritis had progressed to the point where we could no longer give him meaningful pain relief and his quality of life had deteriorated. I always saw him as the "heart" of the group with his ultra kind nature. I am grateful that I was able to prevent further suffering and gave him a last kindness. One his last pigtures here with the hat. He is wishing you all a Happy New Year. My heartfelt condolences to those who have have also lost a piggie friend this year. Hugs from me and lots of love. Saskia Our last act of kindness in 2025 was the intake of Miss Waffles. I posted a reel earlier so you can see her there. Such a tragic story but we are going to work so hard, so very very hard for her and make 2026 the best year ever for Miss Waffles! Please donate so we can continue to have the same impact on 2026 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
