Ad text

I keep seeing people say “don’t judge the parents, their NDIS funding was cut” or “you can’t understand unless you’ve walked in their shoes.” I have walked in those shoes. I’m a mum of three. Two of my children are severely autistic. We only use our funding for therapy and the thought of it being cut terrifies me. I run most days on barely an hour of sleep. I work a management job on top of raising disabled children. I have no village. No grandparents. No backup. No relief. I’ve also lived through abuse and trauma, and if anything, that is exactly why I am fiercely protective of my children. Not once. Not ever. Has harming them crossed my mind. So no, funding cuts, burnout, or lack of support are not an excuse to kill your children. You can acknowledge a broken system without excusing the unthinkable. You can hold compassion without rewriting reality. These acts were not moments of weakness. This was premeditated. And calling it anything else does a disservice to every parent who is exhausted, overwhelmed, and still choosing love and protection every single day. Stop glamorising this couple. Stop telling people they “just don’t understand.” Some of us understand deeply and still cannot comprehend it. Autism families are already fighting stigma, judgment, and a system that barely holds us up. Excusing violence under the banner of burnout only harms us more. We are worn thin. We are tired beyond words. But we do not give up on our children. And we do not excuse those who do. Enough.
