The NHS is currently experiencing a shortage of almost 2,500 midwives; and when each midwife delivers on average 33 babies a year, that’s a big gap that needs filling! Enrolling on an Access to HE Diploma (Midwifery) is the best way to get to university to study Midwifery and go on to become a qualified Midwife, if you currently lack the formal qualifications to do so. You will learn all you need to know about bringing a new life into the world, along with the social skills needed to prepare and assist future parents and carers. You will study post-partum care and how to navigate the health care system for the benefit of expectant parents. You will learn about the biology of cells, human reproduction, digestion, disease prevention and genetic variation and you will discover the history of the NHS and the importance of the role of the midwife in antenatal care.
