The deception of Liberia did not begin in Africa. Africans were excluded. It began in Massachusetts. In 1641, Massachusetts passed a law called the Bodies of Liberties. It spoke of freedom—but legalized slavery. In 1780, Massachusetts went further. Its Constitution declared: “All men are born free and equal.” In 1781, an illiterate and enslaved Black woman named Elizabeth Freeman, known as Mum Bett, filed a lawsuit against her master. She won her freedom. She won reparations. Slavery collapsed in Massachusetts in 1783. That victory terrified enslavers who were founding fathers. Instead of honoring equality, they hijacked democracy with racial citizenship laws. Then came colonization. Liberia was invented as the Land of Liberty— not to expand freedom, but to remove free Black citizens from America and preserve slavery forever. The American Colonization Society admitted the truth: colonization would make the slaves who remained in America “more obedient, more faithful, and more useful to their masters.” Liberia was never meant to be free. It was meant to protect a lie. Join the Free Liberia Movement at the Fourth & Final Remonstrance December 30, 2025, 12:00 noon, U.S. Embassy. With Rev. Torli H. Krua.
