If your mom has diabetic neuropathy and shes wearing compression socks and diabetic shoes theyre probably making it worse not better. I know because I watched my mom try everything for years and nothing worked until I figured out what was actually going on. Shes 68. Had diabetes for like 15 years. The neuropathy started maybe 6 years ago and it got bad fast. Burning feet every night. Numbness when she walked. She kept losing her balance. She bought every product they advertise for diabetic foot pain. Those special diabetic shoes with the cushioning. Gel insoles. The expensive custom orthotics from her podiatrist. Then she got on this kick with compression socks because everyone said they help with circulation. She could barely get them on. And when she did they were so tight on her toes she said it made the numbness worse. But she kept trying new things because her doctor just kept telling her to wear supportive shoes and stay active. That was it. No other solutions. I started googling everything I could find about diabetic neuropathy because I was watching her get worse and I didnt understand why nothing was helping. Turns out those diabetic shoes and insoles only do anything when shes actually wearing them. The second she sits down or goes to bed the problems still there. And those compression socks on amazon or Facebook are made too tight to wear for long and most of the pressure is on your calves not your feet. Most brands just throw the word neuropathy on them but theyre way too tight. I think they just want to make money off people who are desperate. The real issue is getting blood flow to her feet and more gentle compression consistently. Not just when shes walking around. When shes sitting, when shes sleeping. Pretty much all the time to make sure she can get some relief and maybe even recover. I found these bamboo foot sleeves that are made specifically for neuropathy and sensitive feet so I ordered a few pairs for her. Theyre not socks theyre sleeves. Open at the toes so theres no pressure. They go from her toes all the way past her ankle. The whole point is you wear them all day and overnight. Theyre bamboo so theyre soft enough to sleep in and won’t make your feet sweat. I told her to try them and she ended up wearing them almost 24/7. She called me after about a week and said her feet werent hurting as bad at night. AND for the first time in months she slept through the night. Two weeks later she said she felt more confident when she walked. And she started going for walks with her neighborhood women. She wears them every single day now. Hasnt taken them off except to shower lol. She said its the first thing thats actually made a difference in years. I wish her doctor had told her about these instead of just saying wear better shoes. We wasted so much time and money on things that didnt actually fix the problem. If your mom or someone you know has neuropathy, these sleeves work all day and all night. Thats what finally helped my mom. Ill put the link below if anyones dealing with this.
