90 years ago, Suunto began with a more accurate and reliable compass. Mechanical compasses still belong in every outdoor adventurer’s gear quiver. Do you know how to find your location on a map with a mirror compass? Practice this before you really need it. 1️⃣ Find two clear landmarks Peaks, lakes, towers, trail junctions – anything you can see on both terrain and map. 2️⃣ Take a bearing to the first landmark Hold the compass flat, point the direction arrow at the landmark, and turn the bezel until the needle sits in the orienting arrow. 3️⃣ Transfer the bearing to the map Place the compass edge on the landmark on the map and then rotate the compass until north on the bezel lines up with north on the map. Draw a line along the compass edge. 4️⃣ Repeat with a second landmark Take another bearing and draw another line. 5️⃣ Where the lines cross = your location You’re on the map. Some may call this old-school skills but it certainly adds real confidence and safety in the outdoors! 📸 @calebsmithphoto #AdventureStartsHere
