Anita Magsaysay-Ho 'Two Women Mending Nets' & 'Two Women with Fans and Chickens in Baskets' lithographs, 1990. Each hand-signed and dated lower right, numbered 138 out of a limited edition of 200 only. Produced from a set of drawings requested from Anita Magsaysay-Ho by her daughter, Doris, and given by them as Christmas gifts, these two prints belonging to the 'Confidences' series of lithographs are a celebration of connections in womanhood. Resolutely Filipino in its thematic and stylistic conception that is the essence of Anita's work, it is the familiar air between the two figures in each scene that holds the composition together—a space that is witness to women sharing words, stories, sighs, laughter, and confidence in each other. This pair of prints is included in the publication 'Anita Magsaysay Ho: In Praise of Women', 2005 (pp. 105-106). Anita Magsaysay-Ho (1914-2012) is perhaps the most renowned Filipina artist of our time. Culturally resonant and masterfully realized, her oeuvre is defined by her endearing depictions of Philippine womenfolk. Often clad in traditional dress and headscarves, Anita's women are the unsung protagonists of prosaic life, their dignity elevated by her compassion and extraordinary artistry.
