A while ago, @moveshootmove gave me one of their new lightweight, compact Nomad mounts to test and provide some feedback. I knew their original model was a great tool for wide angle astro, but I was always skeptical it could handle the weight of a 70-200 f2.8 and the longer exposure times needed to capture deep sky objects. I have the much heavier, larger Star Adventurer tracker that handles these longer focal lengths and heavier lenses really well. When they sent me one, my goal was to find out what it could do at 200mm. I got the mount this past summer so Andromeda was a good subject. I aligned using their basic laser pointer (no polar scope) and began working on longer and longer exposure times to see at what point I would see trailing (for reference, without a tracking mount, you will see trailing at around 1.5 seconds with my setup). I realized quickly I had made a mistake. This thing easily handled 30 seconds with pin point stars. I was using my astro-modded D810 and was so skeptical, that I didn't even bring my external intervalometer and I couldn't go past 30 seconds 😆. The Andromeda image is a stack of 37 - 30 second exposures, the wide angle image is a stack of 4 - 4 minute exposures. Not even the most minor trailing in either of them. I'm very impressed so far in the @moveshootmove Nomad mount and can't wait to try it on Orion and really push to see how long you can go with this tracking mount. They did not ask me to share my thoughts here and I'm not signed up for their affiliate program. I'm just really impressed with the tracking mount and think it's a great addition to anyone's bag for it's combination of portability, weight, and performance. It checks all the boxes for me! #nightphotography #astrophotography #milkywaychasers #nightscaper #exploresask #explorecanada
