"Said." He sounds it out: S-ay-d. And he's right to — that's exactly what he's been taught. It just doesn't work on that word. Or 'on', 'the', 'you', 'they', 'once', etc.. There are 54 in our pack. Phonics doesn't decode them. They have to be known on sight. It's the words that break the rule they've just learned that can shut down a child. Our Tricky Words Flashcards put all 54 on cards built for little hands, in three groups that get gradually harder. Companion activities included, so it plays like a game. Ages 4–6.
