From Heather Ross @heatherrossinsta The artwork in the By Hand collection was created entirely by hand during the long days of spring 2020. Heather Ross had moved with her family to the Catskill Mountains while recovering from covid. At the time, she had not yet closed her Manhattan studio, believing she would return soon, and therefore had none of her usual digital drawing tools or equipment with her. She had been contemplating the idea of developing a fabric collection based on hand‑inked and painted artwork for some time. Advances in digitally printed textiles meant she was no longer restricted to working with solid blocks of color. In a twist of irony, technology was what gave her the opportunity to work by hand.
