Ad text
In 2009, my husband and I decided to pack up and chase our dream… We quit our jobs and began traveling around Australia with our two little boys. We planned to travel for a year, but, when we reached Darwin, we absolutely fell in love with it. We thought we'd stay a few months — five years later, we were still there! The only problem with Darwin — as you probably know — is the mozzies, midges & sandflies. They were horrendous. We lived in a caravan for four out of the five years, and our boys, Alex and Oscar, were complete mozzie magnets. Their legs were constantly covered in bites. Oscar in particular had it bad; his skin would break open from scratching in his sleep. Our sheets would end up covered in bloodstains. It was heartbreaking. As a mum, I was desperate. I was coating them in heavy duty repellent several times a day, every day. Then, one day, I read the fine print on the back of the repellent bottle and saw the DEET warning. Because I was using it so frequently on their little bodies, I was shocked. It actually warned against using it all day, especially on my kids. I knew I had to stop using it. I switched to natural repellents — but in Darwin's heat and humidity, they just weren’t practical and didn’t work. I decided to go deeper. I studied cosmetic chemistry for two years, completed aromatherapy courses, and started formulating my own products — all from our caravan. I had some great fisherman friends who became my test subjects, trying my sprays and creams under tough conditions in Kakadu & mangroves. After two years of researching, formulating, and testing, I cracked it with formulas that actually worked. The name "Good Riddance" came to me one day while sitting on the couch — "Good riddance" to mozzies, and "good riddance to DEET!” And that's how Good Riddance was born, way back in 2014.
