Ad text

Hello, and a happy Sunday to you all. As we venture into our Ordinary Time, we have the opportunity to hear many other stories from the Old and New Testament. Biblical scholars tell us that the Gospels were written anywhere from 66-100 AD. Mathew, Mark, Luke are know as the synoptic Gospels as they used some of the same sources. John's Gospel, which was written much later stand alone and includes much different information then the first three. Today, we read about how Jesus is moved by the condition of the people he encounters. Matthew says that they were "troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd." Some of the analogies we read in the Bible, like shepherds, sheep, high priests, temples, etc. may not speak to us as it did to the people of Jesus' day. These were common experiences that the people were well aware of. As I wanted to give you all a thought for the day, I figured that many of you are not out in a pasture watching over a flock of sheep. Be that as it may, I came across the following that might give us something to ponder on this Sunday morn. It is by the spiritual writer Max Lucado who shares the following, "You have a God who hears you, the power of love behind you, the Holy Spirit within you. and all of heaven ahead of you. If you have the Shepherd, you have grace for every sin, direction for every turn, a candle for every corner and an anchor for every storm. You have everything you need." And Jesus is that Good Shepherd who never leaves His flock unattended. You have the Father's word on that. Peace and All Good, Fr. Vinnie, fcm and the Bros and Srs of the Franciscan House of Prayer.
