Bring history to life with this engaging and creative decades research project activity. In this interactive lesson, students will dive deep into a chosen modern decade (1900s-2010s), researching its cultural, social, and historical significance by looking at major events, music, fashion, inventions, toys & games, fads/trends, important people, pop culture, and more. Next, they'll channel their findings into planning a concert that reflects the spirit of their decade. From curating a setlist of iconic songs to selecting the perfect venue, choosing concessions and merchandise, and inviting notable VIPs from the time, students will blend research, creativity, and critical thinking to create a comprehensive concert plan. To showcase their work, students will design a concert poster that captures the essence of their decade thoughtfully and accurately. Finally, they'll reflect on their work and provide a rationale for their concert planning and poster design decisions and how they reflect the decade they researched. How It Works: ✔️ Individually or in groups, students choose & research a decade from U.S. or World History using the included links & graphic organizers. ✔️ Using what they learn, students plan a concert that reflects the major events and spirit of their decade. They will choose a date & venue, setlist, concessions & merch to offer, VIPs in attendance, and more. ✔️ To showcase their work, students will design a poster to advertise their concert. ✔️ Finally, students will reflect and provide a rationale for their concert planning and poster decisions and how they reflect the decade they researched.
