I’ve been a cosmetic dentist for over 20 years 💋 I’ve mentored thousands of dentists all around the world. And honestly? There are SO many things people believe about oral health that are completely wrong 😭 So here are 10 things I genuinely wish more people knew about their teeth, gums, and oral health 👇 1️⃣ Brushing harder does NOT mean cleaner teeth. In fact… aggressive brushing can actually wear down your enamel and gums over time. Your teeth don’t need violence 😂 They need: • Consistency • Good technique • Soft pressure • Soft bristles • Gentle circles 2️⃣ Your mouth should NEVER feel dry when you wake up. Dry mouth isn’t normal. It’s usually a sign you’re sleeping with your mouth open. And mouth breathing destroys saliva production overnight. Which matters because saliva protects your: • Teeth • Gums • Oral microbiome • Enamel Without saliva? Bacteria and acid levels rise dramatically 😭 3️⃣ Bleeding gums are NOT normal. If your gums bleed every time you brush… that’s inflammation. Your body is trying to tell you something. Healthy gums don’t bleed. Please stop ignoring this one. 4️⃣ Your oral health affects WAY more than your teeth. Your mouth is connected to your entire body. Poor oral health has been linked to: • Inflammation • Poor sleep • Fatigue • Heart health issues • Brain health issues Your mouth is not isolated from the rest of your health. 5️⃣ Most people don’t actually floss properly 😂 Sorry 😭 Snapping floss aggressively into your gums once a week doesn’t count. Flossing should be: • Gentle • Slow • Consistent Your gums should feel cleaner afterwards… not assaulted. 6️⃣ Mouth breathing changes your face over time. This one shocks people. But chronic mouth breathing is linked to: • Poor sleep quality • Dry mouth • Snoring • Jaw tension • Puffiness • Narrow facial development Your breathing habits matter WAY more than most people realize. 7️⃣ Whitening your teeth too often can backfire. More whitening ≠ healthier teeth. Overdoing whitening products can increase sensitivity and irritate your enamel. Healthy teeth first. Whitening second 💋 8️⃣ Your tongue matters more than you think. If you never clean your tongue… you’re missing a HUGE source of bacteria and bad breath. Tongue scraping is one of the easiest upgrades for: • Fresher breath • Better oral hygiene • Healthier oral bacteria 9️⃣ Snoring is NOT harmless. People joke about snoring all the time. But snoring is often a sign your body isn’t breathing properly during sleep. And poor nighttime breathing affects: • Recovery • Oxygenation • Deep sleep • Energy • Hormones Your sleep quality impacts EVERYTHING. 🔟 The biggest oral health “hack” I’ve personally found? Learning how to sleep properly. Honestly. Deep restorative sleep changes: • Inflammation • Recovery • Stress • Nervous system regulation • Oral health That’s one of the reasons I became obsessed with airway health and mouth breathing as a dentist. And honestly? It’s one of the biggest reasons mouth taping became one of my nightly non-negotiables 💋 Because sleeping with your mouth open all night… dries out the mouth and creates the PERFECT environment for oral health problems. That’s exactly why we created Beauty Sleep Mouth Tape specifically for women. • Soft adhesive • Comfortable fit • Tiny breathing hole And designed to help women feel calm and safe while sleeping. Because honestly? Most women underestimate how much better sleep can completely transform their health. And after 20+ years in dentistry… that’s probably the biggest thing I wish more people understood 💋 If you want the best mouth tape for women - tap the link below to buy 2 get 1 free.
