Strengthening the reach of primary healthcare in underserved regions, Smile Foundation, in collaboration with HDFC Bank under its CSR initiative Parivartan, has launched 8 Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) to serve remote communities across North India. The launch was graced by Maj. General (Prof. Dr.) Atul Kotwal, distinguished chair, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Govt. of India, Mr. Prashant K. S., Lead Consultant at the National Health System Resource Centre (NHSRC) and Dr. Priyanka Shenoy, Sr. Consultant at the NHSRC, who shared valuable insights on strengthening primary healthcare systems. Deployed across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, these MMUs will deliver integrated primary healthcare services to over 4 lakh underserved individuals over the next two years. From doctor consultations and diagnostic services to free medicines, antenatal care, child health monitoring, and screenings for non-communicable diseases, the initiative is designed to ensure timely and accessible care at the doorstep. Launched as part of HDFC Bank’s commitment to last-mile healthcare, the project focuses on bridging critical gaps in regions where terrain and limited resources often restrict access to essential services. Alongside treatment, the programme will also promote preventive healthcare through awareness sessions on hygiene, nutrition, and overall well-being.
