This session will explore how the Virtual Opioid Dependency Program delivers same-day access to Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT), ongoing clinical support, and coordinated care through a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, addiction counsellors, social workers, and pharmacists—all accessible by phone, seven days a week. Participants will gain valuable insights into: ✅ How Alberta's Virtual Opioid Dependency Program improves access to life-saving treatment ✅ Delivering Opioid Agonist Treatment through innovative virtual care models ✅ Supporting individuals in rural, remote, correctional, and transitional settings ✅ The measurable impact of province-wide virtual addiction services ✅ Lessons learned from scaling one of Canada's largest virtual opioid treatment programs Since launching in 2018, the program has grown from serving hundreds of Albertans to supporting more than 8,000 people annually, demonstrating how recovery-oriented innovation can save lives and strengthen communities. Dr. Nathaniel Day is an addiction medicine specialist and one of Canada's leading experts in recovery-oriented addiction care. He serves as Chief Scientific Officer of the Canadian Centre of Recovery Excellence and has held key leadership roles as Provincial Medical Director of Addiction Services and Medical Director of Alberta's Virtual Opioid Dependency Program. Dr. Day was instrumental in designing and launching the Virtual Opioid Dependency Program and has served on Alberta's Opioid Emergency Response Commission and the Recovery Expert Advisory Panel.
