I managed to save my kid's future when I understood how to handle his screen addiction. My little boy was introduced to the tablet's screen before he could even talk. I was worried right from the start, but it was such a good solution for him to be calm and quiet. And as any addiction, at first is fun and cool, but slowly, after years, the phone became his baseline. Each attempt to stop it or take it away, led to meltdowns, screams and me feeling guilty I didn't prevent this right from the start. I tried to sign him up for sports. He would go just to feel anxious, sit through it without talking to anyone, and to come back even more mad at me because I "forced" him to do it. Each try made him more angry with me and made me realize what a bad parent I've been this whole time. He couldn't really make friends or even have a proper conversation because he just couldn't focus for more than 5 seconds. I was desperate. Got him toys to play with just to collect dust in the corner. Each time the same story would unfold: I'd get him the toy and he'd just... be bored. Can you imagine? A kid bored by a NEW toy. He seemed all he was interested in we're his videogames. And I was wondering what have those more than the nerfs or the electric scooters I got him? I felt so stupid when I realized. The challenge. Every game keeps you hooked until you finish the quest or the mission or whatever you wanna call it. That's what the other toys missed entirely. So I started looking until I found TANKS. Tanks made out of bricks. That he builds with his two hands, an instruction manual and 6 hours without a screen in sight. He literally stood there, outside, on that blanket and build the Sherman and the Tiger I think they are called. I knew he was playing with tanks and guns online, but I didn't know these we're actually some of his favorites. Now he's asking for more and I gladly take him as many as I can. It's actually cheaper than swimming or karate lessons. Especially if I get more than one set at a time the BrickWar store gives gifts like soldiers or other sets for FREE. So I usually take that option. I did a restock this week and I saw they have discounts up to 70% until the end of the week. So if you want to get your kid offscreen this summer I'd recommend to check them out. Their stocks usually run out pretty fast so I would hurry.
