My boy has been struggling with constant itching and biting for a while now. He was on a commercial food and started showing bad anal gland issues and constant itching — his itch reflex was so sensitive that touching any part of his body would set him off. I switched him to Dougies raw which seemed to help initially, but the itching came back around a week later. He is 4 years old. Has been on Dorwest Green Releaf tablets and Four Leaf Rover soil-based probiotics for a while. Also recently added Harmony drops and Vince the Vet drops. No improvement. Red patches have appeared at the base of his tail and he is in the cone because of constant biting at his paws and tail base. Took him to the vet today and she found one flea on him. Diagnosed flea allergy and sent us home with Simparica Trio — which I have just searched in this group and I am now panicking as he has already had one tablet. We try to do everything as naturally as possible and he has never been chemically treated. I am questioning whether the flea was even from him — we have checked his skin constantly and found nothing. Wondering if it was a stray one from the vet's. So now I do not know whether the flea is even the real issue, I have given him something I did not want to give him, and the supplements that seemed to work before are not touching it anymore. Has anyone been through something like this — supplements that were working and then stopped, plus itching that keeps coming back and spreading to new areas?
