A few weeks ago, we shared a post called "Balance Exists." The idea was simple: Technology isn't all good, and it isn't all bad. Like many things in life, the impact often depends on how it's being used. A recent study from researchers at Columbia University adds an important perspective to that conversation. Researchers found that it wasn't the total amount of time young people spent on social media that was most strongly associated with mental health challenges. What mattered more was whether their use became difficult to control. In other words, a child could spend time online learning, creating, building friendships, exploring interests, or working on projects. The bigger concern is when technology begins to interfere with daily life. As parents, this can help shift the question from: "How much screen time is my child getting?" to "How is technology affecting my child?" Some signs worth paying attention to may include: • Difficulty stopping when it's time to log off • Increased irritability when devices are unavailable • Technology interfering with sleep, school, activities, or relationships • Loss of interest in things they previously enjoyed This doesn't mean parents need to monitor every minute or have all the answers. In reality, that's difficult for any parent, and it can be especially challenging with teenagers who naturally want more independence and privacy. Parenting in today's digital world is complicated, and most of us are navigating challenges that didn't exist when we were growing up. But understanding what to look for can help us better support our children. Because sometimes the most important question isn't how much time they're spending online. It's whether they're still able to maintain balance offline. And parents deserve support in recognizing the difference. #Parenting #MentalWellness #DigitalWellbeing #ChildDevelopment #UrbanSandbox #ScreenTime #HealthyTechnologyUse #DigitalParenting #TeenMentalHealth #FamilyWellness #ParentSupport #OnlineSafety #YouthDevelopment #MentalHealthAwareness #RaisingKidsToday #SocialMediaAwareness #BalancedLiving #ParentingTips #KidsAndTechnology #DigitalBalance #Urban_Sandbox
