I’m a 29 year old, male alcoholic with alcoholic neuropathy. I used to drink a 750 of whiskey every night along with some beers for years. Eventually I developed neuropathy in my feet. I thought it was just my older work boots at first. Of course I was trying to ignore that it could, in fact, be my drinking problem. At first it felt like I had very sore feet. Then came the pins and needles feeling later on. I lost my job to the fact I couldn’t show up enough of the time because I would call out because I was too hungover. Over the next month or so I kept drinking only making my neuropathy worse. Eventually in got to the point I could barley stand up on my own. My wife would hold me up in the shower just so I could have enough balance to wash my hair. I decided to quit drinking. Over the next 10 days the pain was awful. I was hallucinating as well. I actually thought our toilet seat was messed up because I kept getting the feeling I was sliding off of it. The numbness started slowly rising up my legs until I was actually starting to become numb in my legs and pelvis area. That was when I decided to go to the hospital. While I was there they dosed me with the highest dose of whatever until I had to be put in the ICU. I was sober for 10 days before going to the hospital but they didn’t exactly believe me because of my withdrawal symptoms but it was absolutely true. Not really sure why they hit me so late. But the pain in my feet was the real reason I wanted to get sober. It was unbearable. When I asked doctors about they seemed almost nonchalant about it. They told me because I was young I would recover better than some. Anyway I get out of the hospital after almost a week. Super brain fog feeling from just getting sober. Still barely able to walk and the pain was worse than ever now that I didn’t have alcohol to numb my nerves, although they did put me on gabapentin which I’m not really sure how much that actually did for my pain. I went on vacation with my family for a week in New Hampshire about a month later. Now I was slowly beginning to build some strength back up, but I still could barely make it though a very short hike. This time was filled with tears through my pain for both my wife and I. I had so many questions in my head. Will I ever be able to walk even semi normally again? How will I ever be able to work as an electrician again? Will I be in pain for the rest of my life? Can I actually go on living like this for the rest of my life? Even with all those questions running through my head I still was feeling happier than I had been in a long time. It felt so good to be free of the hold alcohol had on me. I took the summer and into the fall slowly trying to walk as much as I could as painful as it was, slowly building up my strength again. The pain did start to get better although still very painful. In November I went back to work. I absolutely loved my new job, but when I got home to my wife after my first day back I burst into tears. The pain I had endured over my first work day was awful. My wife comforted me the best she could. I didn’t feel like I could do this but that’s where I was wrong. And that’s because she got me something called the GroundingWell mat. I was super skeptical at first because after everything I had been through, it just sounded way too good to be true. But after using it for a week… wow. The results felt real. Here’s what I noticed in just one week: - The burning, tingling feeling in my feet started calming down at night - The constant nerve discomfort felt more manageable day to day - I was falling asleep faster instead of tossing around in pain - I woke up feeling more stable and less “on edge” in my body And for the first time in a long time, I felt like I could actually recover instead of just survive. The idea behind it is pretty simple. Grounding helps balance out built-up electrical charges in your body. And if you don’t get rid of them, they can contribute to inflammation, pain, and other health issues over time. What I love about the mat is how easy it is to use. You can put it under your feet while working, place it on the couch while watching TV, or keep it beside you at home. You don’t have to change your routine at all. I’d honestly give it a solid 5 stars. It’s now part of my daily routine, and alongside sobriety and rebuilding my health, it became one of the most comforting tools I found during recovery. And after that… I kept going. Over the next months my feet slowly began to feel better even after countless times of me saying “I think this is the best they are gonna get”. Now I am almost a year sober. My feet still are in pain sometimes but overall I don’t notice it at work. They still bug me at night sometimes but it is nothing compared to the pain I was in. Im the happiest I’ve been in years. I can work full work weeks in construction now with minimal pain. I also play drums in my band on the weekends. I know this is a very long story but I just wanted to put this out there if you are someone searching for help to stop the pain from alcoholic neuropathy like I was. It may not be 100% reversible, but there are steps you can take to improve your situation. You should STOP drinking immediately. The sooner you stop drinking the better your chances of a full recovery are. Go to a rehab facility if you need to. I should have. It would have helped my withdrawals immensely. And of course, get yourself a Grounding Mat. It's such a small thing and I didn't expect it to work at all, but so far it has been life changing. Right now new customers can get it at up to 67% off, so don't miss out on this great deal. There are a ton of low quality and cheap knockoffs on Amazon, so I will link the GroundingWell site to make sure you get the correct one. 👉 https://www.groundingwell.com/products/groundingwell-mat
