CT Valley United is hosting Fall Basketball Tryouts!!! Valley United Basketball develops and prepares our players to play at the next level. Tryouts will be held Tuesday August 4th, Monday August 10 and Aug 17th 6-7pm at Torrington Christian Academy at 387 New Harwinton Road Torrington. Players should bring a water bottle, basketball, and the $20 tryout fee. Please email [email protected] to reserve your spot at tryouts. Valley is recruiting for the following teams: Girls/Boys 4th grade to High School 1) Trainings: The sessions will be in the Avon/Canton area. There will be one weekly team practice and one skills clinic every other week with former NBA player and Development Specialist (DS) Brooks Sales. Brooks had 4 very successful years at Villanova playing for Jay Wright and then played briefly with the Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets, and oversees. Brooks worked for the Boston Celtics for 2 seasons as a DS. He worked directly with Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kyrie Irving, and others. Here is a clip of him (holding the yellow bag) at Celtics practice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7_cAa3ip_s 2) Tournaments: Each team will participate in a minimum of 4 tournaments. Most teams will have opportunities to play more games. Our local teams will travel 60 mins or less (from Farmington Valley) to participate in weekend tournaments. Tournaments usually consist of 2 games on a Saturday with 1-2 games on Sunday depending on performance. 3) Coaching: All teams will be overseen by the Program Director Bryan Block. Bryan also is the PD for the Bridge Family Center's Independent Living Program. He oversees programs with DCF involved youth in the capacity as life skills instructor, case manager, and mentor. All of these values translate to our Valley programming. Emily Arel will return this Fall as a Head Coach!!! 4) Philosophy: Valley's core philosophy is PMA or Positive Mental Attitude. We teach and hold each other accountable through the positive youth development model. Our coaching team is present to assist our young adults in their journey to achieve their personal goals. We are committed to our players success on and off the court. Valley goes the extra mile for our current and former players! We write letters of recommendation, reach out to college coaches, and are available to our players outside of basketball. Our goal is to use basketball as a way to promote personal development, confidence, and life skills. 5) Development: The focus on individual development has paved the way for our players to perform at the highest level. Alumni, Emily Arel became the 4th all time leading scorer in the history of CT girls basketball. Teammate Maddie Topa ended up 9th all time. Both players amongst many others continue to play collegiately.
