English follows the Arabic: Where Do We Find God? "Where and how do we find God? And what difference will His presence make in our lives?" Rabbi Jonathan Sacks does not answer this question as an abstract idea, but as an experience that a person lives through at different moments in their life: “Like many people, I found God Almighty in the depths of my despair and frustration, and at the height of my joy and delight.” “I found Him at sunset in Jerusalem as I stood on the Mount of Olives, gazing toward the hills of Judea, when the golden-red rays of the sun bathed the scene in their magic, and it seemed to me as if the divine presence was embodied in the radiance of this majestic scene.” “I found God Almighty when He was lifting me up from the depths during the most difficult moments of my life, when He was strengthening me so I could stand on my own two feet again and continue on my journey.” "And I sensed His presence when my children and grandchildren opened their eyes to this world; I sensed His love, which pumped new life into their veins and made them a part of this world." "I feel His presence every Friday evening when the cloud of His glory envelops the Shabbat dinner table, when I pray to Him, asking Him to grant me strength and ability before each new stage of my life." Then comes the phrase that brings it all together: “God enters our lives where we allow Him to.” So perhaps the question is not only: Where do we find God? But also: In what part of our lives do we open the door for Him? In beauty, in pain, in family, at the start of a new life, at a table filled with light, and in that moment when we rise from the depths and continue on our journey. #Jewish_Wisdom #spirituality
