Ad text
The National Monument (Monas) is one of Indonesia's iconic landmarks, built to commemorate the Indonesian people's struggle for independence. Construction began in 1961 at the initiative of Indonesia's first president, Sukarno, and the monument was designed to symbolize the nation's fighting spirit. Monas stands approximately 132 meters tall, topped with a gold-plated flame that represents an undying spirit. Following several stages of construction, the monument was opened to the public in 1975 and has since become one of Jakarta's most popular tourist destinations. To this day, Monas serves not only as a landmark of the capital city but also as a center for historical and cultural education. It houses a museum and the Hall of Independence, as well as an observation deck at the top that offers panoramic views of Jakarta.
