THE TRANSIT-CUSTOM-RANGER WET BELT PACKAGE Ford have now recommended wet belts be replaced at 6 years and between 60k and 100k depending on model, due to all the issues. Williamson Bros are wet belt specialists, we do work on Porsche main dealers parts vans, Pentland Components parts factors and even Ford main dealers as well as dozens of companies. The wet timing belt replacement is something we do every day for customers all over Scotland as it is a massive issue with Ford as well as other makes of wet belt manufacturers. This wet belt situation has been described as a ticking TIME BOMB! The wet timing belt starts to delaminate very early on and all the particles drop into the sump, the oil pump then sucks all the debris up into the oil strainer blocking it and in turn causing oil pressure faults leading to oil starvation and often catastrophic failures. Often there are no warning signs of impending issues of the wear in the belts. We have seen many instances where the first indication of failure is losing the brake pedal while on the motorway as the particles block up and damage the brake vacuum pump leading to a solid brake pedal, often a frightening experience! Turbos smoking & failure is also another indication but this can also be an instant failure rather than a progressive issue, lastly total engine failure is a result of oil starvation. We see faults and breakdowns on vans just 3 to 5 years old with only 19k to 70k on them. We have all of the specialist engine timing locking tools to do the work required and we use all genuine Ford parts along with a Major service. New Genuine Ford parts are as follows, Full wet belt timing kit with tensioner & guide + oil pump drive wet belt, crank bolt, new full timing case cover, new sump and HT sealant, oil pick up strainer, auxiliary belt, water pump belt, oil filter and 10 to 11ltrs of specialist grade Ford oil, air filter and fuel filter. For all parts, labour and vat included This is:- £1189.88 for front wheel drive Transits/Custom and £1289.88 for rear wheel drive as the sumps are different. For the Ranger WITH sump removal this is £1680.90. {The Ranger wet belt replacement is more time consuming, to do the job correctly, like the Transits it requires the sump to be removed which involves far more work and the cost of parts are dearer than the Transit. The job can be done without removing the sump and a lot of garages will quote for just a wet belt replacement but without removing and replacing the sump, however removing the sump is a CRITICAL part of the process for ALL models as all wet belts delaminate after a short time and the particles block up the oil pump strainer and the only way to check and clean this and replace the strainer is removing the sump, it is absolutely pointless doing a wet belt replacement without removing the sump.) On all models the sump is removed and all internal filters, core filter and oil pump strainers are cleaned out and or replaced, dependant on model, including cleaning out the turbo oil return pipe and then the replacement of all parts mentioned in the above descriptions. We would need the vehicle for a day and a half to allow the specialist high temp sealants for the sump and timing case cover to cure fully before we do the Major service then the road test the following morning after cure overnight. The prices include the major service to be undertaken at the same time on all models The water pump is not run off the timing belt but we can replace this and a coolant change for an additional £120 to include parts, labour and vat.
