Is the weighing scale a good way to judge fat loss? In my weight management classes, students often tell me: “It’s almost impossible to lose weight.” Just last week, a student said this to me: “I’ve been eating well and doing weight training consistently. But my weight just won’t budge.” So I asked her one question: “How are you tracking your progress?” Her answer was very common: “I weigh myself every day.” Here’s the problem. A weighing scale only tells you total body weight. It doesn’t tell you: • how much fat you lost • how much muscle you gained • how much water your body is holding So let me use a simple analogy. Using a weighing scale to judge fat loss is like renovating a house. You remove old furniture. You strengthen the structure. You upgrade the inside. Then you step back and say, “The house weighs the same. Renovation failed.” Of course not. Fat loss + muscle gain can happen at the same time. The number on the scale may stay the same, even when your body is changing. This is why many people feel discouraged when they’re actually doing things right. Weight is not the same as progress❗️ If you’re eating better, training consistently, getting stronger, and feeling better, but the scale isn’t moving… It doesn’t mean nothing is happening. It means the scale is the wrong tool for the job.
