"For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea." - Habakkuk 2:14 Habakkuk spoke these words during a time when he was troubled by the wickedness and injustice he saw around him. He questioned why God seemed silent while evil prospered. Instead of giving Habakkuk a complete explanation, God gave him a promise: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14). This promise shifted the focus from the problems of the present to the certainty of God's future. No matter how dark circumstances appear, God remains in control. He declared a similar promise in Numbers 14:21, saying, “As truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the Glory of the Lord.” What God declares, He will accomplish. The phrase “knowledge of the Glory of the Lord” means more than knowing facts about God. It speaks of a deep recognition of who He is—His holiness, power, mercy, and faithfulness. This is why Isaiah 11:9 says, “The earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” One day, God's greatness will be known throughout the world. We see the beginning of this fulfillment in Yeshua Messiah. John 1:14 declares, “We beheld His Glory, the Glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of Grace and Truth.” Through Yeshua, God revealed His Glory in a way humanity could see and experience. His life, death, and resurrection displayed God's love, justice, and power. Today, believers carry that same light. 2 Corinthians 4:6 says, “God... has shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the Glory of God in the face of Yeshua.” As we follow Adonai, our lives become a testimony of God's Glory to a world that desperately needs Him. One day, God's promise will reach its complete fulfillment. Revelation 21:23 describes the eternal city, saying, “The Glory of God illuminated it.” The earth's story ends not in darkness but in the full manifestation of God's Presence and Glory. Until that day, Habakkuk 2:14 calls us to live with hope. The troubles we see today are temporary, but God's Glory is eternal. What God promised through His prophet will surely come to pass.
