If you’re struggling to get (and keep!) your feet off the floor in arm balances and inversions, you’re missing some key ingredients in your practice. I don’t know about you, but for the longest time I felt that the things that were keeping me from being able to do a handstand or arm balance were: ➡️ Weak arms & wrists ➡️ Weak core ➡️ A belief that this is for "gymnasts," not regular people Well it turns out, that while these things make SOME difference, they are NOT the keys that help you balance on your hands. The truth is that it has very little to do with strength, and much more to do with that I’m about to tell you. Yoga classes spend just a couple of minutes (if that) explaining how to do these poses. Most of the time, the teacher just demonstrates and says “now you try,” and you’re left looking around the room trying to figure out wtf is going on. You try, your arms wobble, you fall on your face, and you determine that you’re just not strong enough. I get it!! But this is FALSE. It's not that you're not strong enough, it's just that you are missing these crucial pieces: ✅ Missing information about exactly how to align your joints so that you aren’t fighting gravity, but working WITH it. ✅ FEAR of falling and hurting yourself (which, when you learn how to fall safely and how to engage your body properly, becomes a non-issue!) ✅ Missing proper hand engagement! When you’re standing on your hands, your hands become like your feet. There are very specific ways to engage your hands that make it not at all about wrist strength, but instead, letting your fingers do the work of balancing you, just like your toes do when you walk. The fact is that it is really NOT about strength. You are strong enough right now, and when you learn how to stack your bones, conquer the fear of falling and use your hands effectively, you’ll see that strength is secondary. It doesn’t have to take YEARS to learn how to move your body in this way - you can do it in weeks or months - the only thing missing for most of us is great instruction and FEEDBACK to help you every step of the way. The truth is that there is no such thing as “too old” or “too out of shape.” If you have a willingness to show up and do the work, it’s ALL possible much faster than you think. Over 30% of our community members are in their late 50s and 60s, and they don't let anyone tell them that they're too old!! Arm balancing is an incredible journey of building self-confidence, self-trust and changing the stories in your mind about what is and isn’t possible for your life - not just on your yoga mat, but everywhere else. If you’re ready to learn and join the ranks of normal people just like you and me who can achieve incredible physical feats, we’re waiting for you on the inside.
