My 16-year-old just texted me a screenshot and I don't know whether to be proud or humiliated. She got her learner's permit three weeks ago. Hasn't driven on a real road yet. Still parks like she's defusing a bomb. But for some school project on "adulting," her teacher had them pull a quote on what it would cost to insure their own hypothetical car. A used 2018 Civic. Just to see. She sent me the number. $89 a month. I'm 43. Clean record. Drive a 2019 Accord. I pay $237. I asked her how she got that number. She said the teacher gave them a site to use — some quiz thing. Took her like two minutes during 4th period. So I sat in my driveway after work and did the same thing. Same site she used. Honest answers. My car, my zip, my actual record. $47 a month. I've been with the same company since I bought my first truck in 2007. Eighteen years of on-time payments, no accidents, no tickets. And a kid who's never legally driven a car just out-shopped me in a high school classroom on her lunch break. She asked me at dinner if I was going to switch. I told her I already did it on my phone before she got home. She just looked at me and goes, "Dad. I'm 16. You're supposed to be teaching me this stuff." Fair. The site her teacher gave them is below if you want to feel the same way I felt sitting in that driveway. https://autoratesnow.com/form/
