THIS WEEKEND, September 11–13, the Fredericksburg region welcomes the Slave Dwelling Project for a meaningful weekend centered on history and connection. Visitors can take in living history demonstrations, engage in honest conversation, tour historic sites, and hear stories that are too often left out of the traditional narrative — straight from the team behind the Slave Dwelling Project. The James Monroe Museum will be joining in on September 12, 2026, with a hands-on brickmaking demonstration. Stop by the museum courtyard to watch historic brickmaking techniques in action. Museum admission is free all weekend, with kids' crafts and storytime offered every hour — don't miss it! Most events are free and open to everyone, though a few require registration in advance.
