I didn't plan to share this during Black History Month. But it feels right that this ends where it began. Eighteen years ago, february 2007 I opened Aisha Jewelry during Black History Month. A small boutique where I handmade every piece. I was 40. My kids were finally grown. I thought, ""This is my time. I'm going to create something that proves Black women belong in luxury."" For nearly two decades, I kept those doors open. Not just selling jewelry. But hand-making it. Every piece. Proving. Every single day. That I deserved to exist in this space. Opening in the morning. Closing at night. Designing new pieces. Crafting them by hand. Helping customers find something meaningful for birthdays, anniversaries, or just because they wanted to celebrate themselves. I survived the 2008 financial crisis when luxury spending disappeared overnight. I made it through the pandemic when I had to close for months. I weathered wholesale partners dropping me, landlords raising rent, gold and silver prices tripling. I competed against mass-produced brands and mall chains with corporate backing. For 18 years, I fought to keep the lights on and my hands working. And now, at 58, I don't have any fight left. This Black History Month, the same month I opened with so much hope, will be my last. The boutique is closed. Aisha Jewelry ends February 28th. What remains is jewelry. Pieces I handmade over 18 years. Created to be heirlooms, not inventory collecting dust. I could return the materials to suppliers. Melt them down. Let them disappear. But I won't. I'd rather the community I built this for have them. I've put everything online. 80% off. Prices I would never have offered in the boutique. Not because the quality changed. But because my goal isn't profit anymore. It's dignity. I want these pieces to be worn. Cherished. Passed down. I want to close knowing my 18 years of handwork went to people who will treasure them, not back to a system that spent 18 years trying to erase me. There are no restocks coming. No new pieces being made. No extensions. After February 28th, this is over. If a piece speaks to you, don't wait. Thank you for 18 years of walking through my doors and believing in this dream, even when the industry didn't. This is my goodbye. 🖤 — Aisha, 58
