Most artists obsess over pigments. Almost none upgrade their black. Black 4.0 absorbs 99% of visible light. That means it reflects almost nothing back into your eye. When your darkest value is truly dark, every other colour on your palette appears stronger by comparison. Reds feel deeper. Yellows feel brighter. Blues feel richer.
