The reason you’re not getting faster isn’t because you don’t train hard enough. It’s because your body has no idea what to adapt to. Here’s what I see all the time with Hyrox athletes.... One day it’s intervals. Next day, heavy strength. Then a random metcon thrown in! (I have been guilty of this last week coming to dubai and joining in a few classes in the community—ooops) Then a long run because “I need endurance.” By the end of the week → your body is overwhelmed with stimulus overload. Too much variation = no clear adaptation. Instead of getting fitter, you just stay tired. The decision. You book a race. At first you’re excited, then the panic creeps in: “I’ve left it too late. I’m not ready.” The scramble. Training volume skyrockets. You squeeze in every run, every lift, every conditioning workout you can find online or just do a tonne of hyrox classes Your body doesn’t adapt to chaos. It adapts to consistency. When every session is random intensity, long run here, HIIT there, heavy lift, then another threshold workout .... your body gets hit with so many different signals it can’t prioritise. Instead of getting fitter, you just get more fatigued. THEN here is the truth in it all...... wait for it because the penny might drop here... .....fatigue feels like hard work, so you assume it must be progress. But really, it’s just the hole getting deeper. So the cost of staying in this cycle then leads to; Little niggles turn into injuries. Energy tanks halfway through the race. You cross the finish line thinking: “I trained harder than ever. Why didn’t I perform better?” Because I have been there myself.. I want to help. Here’s some advice.. It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing the right things, in the right order, with the right recovery windows.
