🏗️ PROJECT UPDATE: Lae Main Market Redevelopment! Big things are happening in the heart of Lae! Work is well underway to transform the Lae Main Market into a safer, more vibrant, and inclusive space for our community, vendors, and local SMEs. Here is a look at our progress as of June 2026: 🚧 Construction Progress & Siteworks Our contractors, PNG-owned Minpac Construction Ltd, have been hard at work since kicking off in September 2025: • Main Market Building (30% complete): Foundation works are in full swing with steel reinforcement cages being assembled. • Arts & Crafts Building (15% complete): Structural steel and reinforcements have been delivered to the site. • Main Entry & SME Kiosks (20% complete): Foundation earthworks are moving right along. • Other Works (5% complete): Underground services are being installed, and the concrete pour for the service driveway retaining wall is underway! 🛠️ Empowering Local Skills We are thrilled to welcome 18 new trade trainees (including 10 women!) to the Lae Market Trade Qualifications Program! They joined us on-site on April 20, 2026, and were welcomed by representatives from the Lae City Authority, Morobe Provincial Government, and the Australian and New Zealand governments. They’ll be gaining hands-on, nationally recognized qualifications right here on the market grounds. 🎓 Inspiring Future Professionals In May, we hosted second-, third-, and final-year Civil Engineering and Construction Management students from the PNG University of Technology. These future leaders got a first-hand look at project coordination, construction processes, and workplace health and safety. We also welcomed Australian Deputy High Commissioner Adrian Lochrin to site to see the progress and meet the team! What’s Next? Get ready to see the market rise! Next, we will be commencing the structural steel framing, pouring foundation concrete for the main buildings, and finishing up underground utility works. 🤝 The Lae Main Market Redevelopment is proudly jointly funded by the Lae City Authority, the Australian Government, and the New Zealand Government. #ForABetterLae #LaeMainMarket #LaeCity #Infrastructure #PNGAusPartnership #NewZealandAid #WomenInTrades #UnitechPNG
