If you feel stuck trying to improve your intimate relationship, you’re not alone. I’ve been working with men for the past 7 years, and a significant part of that work has focused on relationships. What’s interesting is that the longing for deeper connection, intimacy, and love isn’t just a masculine desire. I’m seeing this same yearning reflected from women as well. Many men and women genuinely want a relationship that feels alive, connected, and mutually fulfilling. For men, this often shows up as a desire for more physical touch, intimacy and a deep desire to be wanted and craved by their feminine partner. For women, it’s often about feeling seen, valued, and met with consistent effort. That might look like being appreciated for their inner beauty and brilliance, while also feeling supported through shared responsibility in the home and family life. And yet, this is often where relationships can break down. One partner, regardless of gender, may start to feel that the other isn’t as committed or willing to put in the same level of effort. From there, many of us fall back on familiar strategies in the hope that our partner will change. Complaining. Demanding. Withdrawing. Withholding affection. While these strategies may influence behavior in the short term, they rarely create lasting change or genuine buy-in. What’s left instead are relationships filled with resentment, disappointment and unmet longing. I’m seeing this disconnect in many relationships and much of the advice, theory, and tools currently available simply aren’t working. They’re not reducing breakups or divorce, and they’re not helping couples feel more secure and connected. So what’s missing? A deeper understanding of how attachment patterns actually operate in our day-to-day lives. Most people don’t truly understand their own attachment style or that of their partners. Even if they’ve read a book, watched videos, or taken a course on the topic. Knowing the theory is one thing. Seeing how your attachment style shows up under stress, conflict or when feeling disconnected is something entirely different. Our emotions, history, and investment in the relationship often prevent us from seeing these patterns clearly on our own. When you can recognize that you may have a secure attachment with anxious tendencies and your partner leans more avoidant. Or that you both carry anxious or avoidant patterns. It becomes much easier to understand why certain moments feel harmonious while others quickly turn into conflict. Here are a few questions to help you explore the attachment styles in your current relationship or a relationship of the past. You are welcome to share your reflections in the comments or message me directly: Q1: What do you believe your attachment style or relationship pattern is? Q2: What evidence or patterns of behaviour point to that conclusion? Q3: What attachment style have you witnessed in your current partner or a partner in a past relationship? Q4: What evidence or patterns of behaviour point to that conclusion about your partner or a past partner? Later this month, I’ll be hosting a free workshop called: From Survival to Secure: A Masterclass on Creating Fulfilling Relationships. This workshop will support you in developing a clearer understanding of attachment theory and the practical shifts you can make to create more harmony, connection, and love in your relationships. If you’d like to attend live or receive access to the replay, let me know in the comments below or send me a message.
