This is the Lordβs doing, and it is wonderful in our eyes.β β Psalm 118:22β23 Have you ever wondered why some of Godβs most beloved servants had to walk through the deepest valleys before they reached the mountaintop? Joseph was one of them. He was not rejected by strangers. He was rejected by his own brothers. He was not betrayed by enemies. He was betrayed by his own family. The young man who carried dreams from God was thrown into a pit, sold as a slave, separated from his loving father, and taken to a foreign land. As if that were not enough, when he faithfully served in Egypt, he was falsely accused by Potipharβs wife. Though innocent, he was condemned. Though faithful, he was imprisoned. For years, Joseph lived in a dark prison where no one seemed to remember him. Many people knew Josephβs situation. But no one knew Josephβs story. His brothers did not understand Godβs plan. The Midianites did not know his heart. Potiphar did not know the truth. The prison guards did not know why he was there. But there was One who knew everything. The Lord was with Joseph. (Genesis 39:2) Joseph never spent his days trying to prove himself to everyone around him. He did not waste his strength seeking sympathy or revenge. In the silence of his suffering, he remained faithful to God. Sometimes, silence before God is stronger than a thousand explanations before people. There are seasons in life when others may misunderstand you. They may judge you without hearing your side of the story. They may believe accusations without knowing the truth. You may become the victim of betrayal. You may be innocent, yet condemned. You may carry wounds that no one else can see. Perhaps today you are living in your own prisonβnot Josephβs prison of stone, but a prison of loneliness, rejection, disappointment, sickness, waiting, or silent tears. If this is your season, do not lose heart. The God who was with Joseph is with you. The Scriptures tell us something remarkable: βHe sent a man before themβJosephβ¦ They bruised his feet with shacklesβ¦ until what he foretold came to pass, the word of the Lord proved him true.β β Psalm 105:17β19 Long before Joseph understood his suffering, God already understood his purpose. Joseph thought he was being abandoned. God was preparing him. Joseph thought he was forgotten. God was positioning him. Joseph thought the prison was the end of his story. God knew it was only the road to the palace. Why did Joseph have to endure so much pain? Because God already saw what Joseph could not see. A great famine was coming. Thousands of lives would depend on one faithful servant. Before the famine arrived, God had already prepared the one who would preserve life. Nothing in Josephβs suffering was wasted. Years later, standing before the very brothers who had sold him, Joseph spoke words that continue to comfort hearts today: βYou intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.β β Genesis 50:20 What a beautiful God we serve! He does not call evil good. But He is so great that He can bring good even out of what others meant for evil. Perhaps you cannot understand why you are walking through this painful season. Perhaps you have asked, βLord, why me?β Do not be discouraged. There is a time for everything under heaven. (Ecclesiastes 3:1) Winter does not last forever. The longest night eventually gives way to dawn. Seasons change. People change. The same crowd that welcomed Jesus with palm branches later cried, βCrucify Him!β Human opinions rise and fall like the wind. But God never changes. He remains faithful in your days of joy and in your nights of sorrow. When others walk away, He stays. When others misunderstand you, He understands. When others reject you, He still calls you His beloved child. The story of Joseph points us to someone even greater. Jesus Christ. He too was rejected. He was misunderstood. He was falsely accused. He was mocked, betrayed, abandoned, and condemned though He was innocent. Yet the rejected Stone became the Cornerstone of our salvation. After Good Friday came the glory of Easter morning. If you remain faithful to God, your suffering is never meaningless. As Saint Paul reminds us: βWe know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.β β Romans 8:28 And Saint Peter gives us this beautiful promise: βAfter you have suffered a little while, the God of all graceβ¦ will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.β β 1 Peter 5:10 My dear brothers and sisters, Do not measure Godβs love by todayβs pain. Do not measure your future by todayβs prison. Do not measure your calling by todayβs rejection. God is still writing your story. The chapter you are living today is not the final chapter. Trust Him. Remain faithful. Walk humbly with Him. In His perfect time, the God who raised Joseph, the God who raised His Son from the dead, will also accomplish His good purpose in your life. The world may overlook you. But God never will. Prayer Heavenly Father, when I cannot understand the purpose of my suffering, help me to trust Your loving heart. Give me the patience of Joseph, the faithfulness to remain close to You in every season, and the courage to carry my cross with hope. Lord Jesus, You are the true Cornerstone whom the world rejected. Help me to follow You with humility, perseverance, and love. Holy Spirit, strengthen me when I grow weary, comfort me when I am misunderstood, and remind me that You are always with me. May every trial draw me closer to Christ, until my life becomes a witness to Your mercy and Your glory. Amen. βThe stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
