Ad text

My grandmother died of ovarian cancer. It presented too late and metastasised to most of her organs. As a male GP, these are some of the women’s health conditions I think we still miss too often 👇 🩸 Heavy periods are not always “normal.” Copper coils and some hormonal contraception can worsen bleeding, leading to iron deficiency and anaemia - causing fatigue, dizziness, palpitations and brain fog. 🌙 Endometriosis is where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows outside the uterus, causing pelvic pain, painful periods, pain during sex, bowel symptoms and sometimes infertility. Adenomyosis happens when this tissue grows into the muscle of the womb itself, often causing severe pain and very heavy bleeding. 🧠 PMS is not simply “moodiness.” Premenstrual syndrome can cause significant psychological and physical symptoms linked to hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle, and in some women it can be genuinely debilitating. 🔥 Perimenopause and menopause are often missed because symptoms go far beyond hot flushes. Anxiety, sleep disturbance, joint pains, palpitations, low mood, vaginal dryness and brain fog can all be part of hormonal change. 🚨 Postmenopausal bleeding should always be taken seriously. Bleeding after menopause is never something to ignore and must be investigated properly. 🎗️ Ovarian cancer is one of the hardest cancers to detect early because symptoms are often vague: persistent bloating, pelvic pain, feeling full quickly, urinary symptoms and unexplained fatigue are all important clues. Women’s health is not about “just hormones.” Sometimes the symptoms women have normalised for years are the very symptoms we should be paying closer attention to. #WomensHealth #GP #Endometriosis #Adenomyosis #menopause
