it's 12 degrees outside right now I live in Minnesota. winter here is no joke. we're talking negative temps for weeks at a time and trying to bathe a dog in the middle of winter? it's basically torture I have a fluffy girl named Dakota. she needs grooming. she sheds CONSTANTLY. and she gets dirty from playing in the snow but I haven't given her an actual bath since October because here's what happens when you bathe a dog in winter: first - the bathroom is freezing even with the heat on. she's already cold before we even start then I get her wet. now she's REALLY cold. she's shivering. I'm trying to hurry I rinse her. she shakes. ice cold water goes everywhere including all over me I try to towel dry her but she's still damp I try to blow dry her but it takes FOREVER. and she hates the blow dryer. and even with the blow dryer she's not fully dry so now I have a damp dog in a freezing house her undercoat stays wet for HOURS. even if the top layer feels dry she shivers. looks miserable. curls up in her bed trying to get warm I feel horrible and here's the scary part - my vet told me that dogs can actually get sick from being cold and wet. like respiratory issues. especially in extreme cold so I basically just... stopped bathing her in winter but then she'd get that doggy smell. and the shedding was out of control. and she'd track in dirty snow that would melt into her fur I felt like I was choosing between a clean dog and a healthy dog my friend texted me in December. she has a Malamute. similar situation with the cold weather and the thick coat she was like "are you still bathing Dakota in this weather?" I said no. told her about the cold/wet/sick concern she said "yeah I stopped doing that. I use this brush thing now. keeps her clean without getting her wet" I was like "...what?" she explained it. this ReNu brush that sprays a mist while you brush. cleans them without actually bathing them I was skeptical. how does a brush CLEAN a dog? that's not how cleaning works but she sent me photos of her Malamute her dog looked CLEAN. like really clean. fluffy and white and groomed "and you haven't bathed her since when?" "October" "...okay I need this" ordered it that day it came a few days later I tried it on Dakota on a Saturday morning the house was cold (we keep it at 65 in winter to save on heating) I sat with her in the living room. filled the brush with the solution started brushing her the mist came out. just a light spray. not soaking her. just dampening her coat slightly and it smelled clean. like fresh and clean. not chemically. just... good I kept brushing. the brush was collecting SO MUCH FUR. and dirt. I didn't realize how dirty she actually was until I saw it all coming out I brushed her whole body. took maybe 20 minutes when I was done she was barely damp like her coat was slightly wet from the mist. but not soaked. not even close to bath-wet I didn't even need to blow dry her. within 30 minutes she was completely dry and warm. she wasn't shivering. wasn't cold. just normal but her coat looked SO much better cleaner. fluffier. the dirt and old fur were gone and she smelled fresh not like that fake flower dog shampoo smell. just... clean I couldn't believe it it's been 3 months now. I brush her with this thing once a week she hasn't had a bath since October and she looks better now than she did when I was bathing her regularly her coat is healthier. shinier. no dry skin from over-bathing in winter she's not getting that wet dog smell because I can maintain her without water and most importantly - she's not dealing with the cold wet miserable winter bath situation she actually likes being brushed with this thing. probably because she knows she's not going to end up cold and wet we just sit on the couch together. I brush her while watching TV. she stays warm and dry and cozy inside it's perfect for winter and honestly? I don't think I'll go back to regular baths even when it warms up why would I? this works better her coat looks better. she's happier. I'm not stressed about it if you live in a cold climate and you've been struggling with the same thing I was - trying to keep your dog clean in winter without making them cold and miserable this is the solution your dog stays dry. stays warm. gets clean. all while staying cozy indoors. I wish I'd found it years ago. would've saved Dakota from so many miserable winter baths
