Hi! Tanya here, your IELTS tutor. 👋 Today I want to show you a tiny grammar trick that can make exactly the same idea sound much more advanced. Imagine this cue card: 💬 Describe a video you watched. You could say: "I watched a celebrity beauty video. It was surprisingly calming and entertaining." That's perfectly fine. Now listen to this: "I thought it would be just another random celebrity beauty video, but it was surprisingly calming and entertaining." Exactly the same idea. But now you've naturally used future in the past. And here's an even stronger version: "What I thought would be just another random celebrity beauty video actually turned out to be surprisingly calming and entertaining." Same idea. Different grammar. Higher band.
