Walking away from 15years of banking was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made — and honestly, I’m still figuring out whether it was the “right” one. For a long time, the misalignment between what I was doing and what mattered kept growing. Like many, I pushed through until burnout forced me to pause and admit something wasn’t working (I’m sure a lot of us felt that post-COVID). On paper, leaving made no sense — stability, security, a clear path… and yes, I still miss sick leave. With a young family, it felt scary and, at times, irresponsible. I took a career break, and that space mattered more than I expected. These photos are from time back in Hong Kong — reconnecting with family, spending time around basketball, and experiencing the game in a completely different way. To be clear, I’m no business expert — very much on my L-plates, flying the plane while building it mid-air. My parents still think Swishlab is a hobby. They didn’t even come to the opening and still ask me when I’m going back to “work” 😂 I’m not here to preach about quitting your job — it’s not for everyone. But what I have learned is this: if you have even a small chance to explore something on the side, responsibly, it’s worth considering. Not because it’s easy, but because the learning is invaluable. I still have doubts and make plenty of mistakes, but for the first time in a long while, my work feels aligned with who I am and the values I want to live by. If anyone wants to chat.
