Estimates from recent attachment research suggest that adults tend to follow a remarkably consistent pattern. Around 55 per cent of people report a secure attachment style, and the remaining 45 per cent are spread across avoidant, anxious and fearful or disorganised patterns in proportions that appear stable across multiple studies. These figures are not intended as precise measurements. Instead, they offer a helpful way to understand how people approach closeness, respond to emotional needs and form habits in relationships. Attachment styles are better viewed as tendencies rather than fixed traits, and research shows that they can change over time with supportive relationships and greater self awareness. Exploring your own attachment style is not about labelling yourself.
