Food waste is one of the things I’ve really been trying to reduce at home. Around 1.05 billion tonnes of food are wasted every year and food waste is responsible for 8–10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. We already compost our raw fruit and veg scraps outside, but it takes months before the compost is ready and we can’t add cooked food because it attracts pests. So I started looking into countertop composters and realised that a lot of them aren’t actually composters at all - they just dry the food out.
