When people talk about being “too hard” on our kids or “too soft” - they’re missing the point entirely. There’s no such thing as too hard or too soft. And if there was some magic blend of “hard” and “soft” that created change in our kids… We all would have found it a long time ago. Instead, we need to completely rethink the way we parent our addicted children. We need a fresh view of what they really need… and what we can really do. The good news is that we have incredible power. There IS hope. And it is possible to reclaim our own lives and the lives of our children - while encouraging them to recover. I’m happy to say that my son eventually chose recovery. I’m so proud of the mature and responsible man that he has become. And he is the first to tell you that it was the change in ME that encouraged him to change. All because I finally understood why almost all parents get it wrong… And what I needed to do instead.
