I've been a youth pastor for 16 years. And I want you to look at something. Look at your kids right now. Think about all those Sundays they've sat in church. All those Bible stories they've heard. All those VBS programs. All those times you've prayed with them before bed. Now ask yourself honestly. Do they actually understand what any of it means? Not the stories themselves. Not the names. But why it matters for THEIR lives. How it connects to their choices at school. What to do when they're scared. How God fits into their actual everyday world. Because last month I asked the kids in my youth group a question that stopped me cold. We had just finished the story of David and Goliath. I asked them what it meant for them. One kid said "be brave." Another said "God helps the little guy." Good answers. Safe answers. Then I asked: "But when YOU face something scary this week - a bully, a hard test, trying out for the team - how does David's story actually help you in that moment?" Silence. They looked at each other. Looked at me. Looked down. Nothing. And these weren't new kids. These were kids who'd been coming every single week for months. Some for years. Kids with perfect attendance. Kids who knew every Bible story by heart. And they had no idea how any of it connected to their real lives. They knew WHAT happened in the Bible. But not WHY it mattered for them. And the moment they walked out of church, they were completely on their own. I'm a youth pastor. I've been teaching kids Scripture for 16 years. And I just discovered I'd been failing them the entire time. That night after the kids left, I sat in the empty room staring at the chairs they'd been sitting in. All those eager faces. All those raised hands. All that perfect attendance. None of it meant they actually understood how to LIVE their faith. I'd been giving them Bible stories every week. I never taught them how to apply them. My wife found me there at 11 PM still sitting in the dark. "What's wrong?" she asked. "I don't think the kids in my youth group actually know how the Bible connects to their lives." "What do you mean?" "I mean they know the stories. But they can't connect them to real life. The moment they face something hard at school on Monday, the Bible feels irrelevant to them." "Isn't that normal? They're kids. Their brains are still developing." "That's the problem. I keep teaching them like they're adults. But they need something different. Something that meets them where they are." She sat down next to me. "So what are you going to do?" "I don't know." But I did know. Worse, I knew exactly what I had to do. I just didn't want to admit how much work it would be. The next morning, I opened my computer and started writing. Week 1: Adam and Eve. I wrote down the story in language kids could understand. The scripture reference. God's message. And then - this was the key - real questions kids could answer. Real activities that made it stick. Real discussion prompts so parents could talk about it at home. Not just "what happened in the story." But "how does this connect to YOUR life?" I broke it down until my own 9-year-old could read it and actually apply it to her day. Then I did Week 2. Noah's Ark. Then Week 3. The First Brothers. Every single major Bible story from Genesis to Revelation. Fifty-two weeks. One complete year. It took me four months. Four months of sitting at my desk after everyone went to bed. Four months of writing and rewriting until it was as clear as I could make it. Four months of putting 16 years of youth ministry into a format kids could actually use on their own. The next month, I brought the first few weeks with me. I didn't tell the kids what it was. I just handed it out. "Before we talk about David and Goliath today," I said, "I want you to read this page. Just read it. Then we'll discuss." I watched them read. Some of them finished in three minutes. Some took five. Then I said, "Okay. Now let's talk about it." And I watched something I'd never seen before in 16 years of youth ministry. Their hands shot up. Not to give the "right answer." To share how they'd actually USE this. One girl said, "So when I'm scared to try out for the basketball team, I can remember that God gave David courage to face something way bigger than him. And He can do that for me too." A boy said, "My older brother picks on me all the time. This makes me think I don't have to fight him back. I can trust God like David did." Another kid said, "Why didn't anyone ever tell us we could actually USE these stories? I always thought they were just things that happened a long time ago." The rest of the session was completely different. They weren't just listening to me tell stories. They were discovering how to live them. They were making connections I'd never heard them make before. They were actually understanding how Scripture applies to their real lives. At the end, one of the moms pulled me aside. Her daughter had been coming for two years. "Pastor, my daughter talked about this lesson all the way home in the car. She's never done that before. Usually she can't remember what we even talked about. But today she told me exactly how she's going to use what she learned when something hard happens at school this week. What changed?" I went home that night and told my wife what happened. "They got it. For the first time, they actually got it." "So what are you going to do with those 52 weeks?" "I don't know. Share them with parents who need them, I guess." That was more than a year ago. Since then, I've had hundreds of parents tell me the same thing. "This is the first time my child has ever understood how to actually LIVE their faith." Not because I'm some brilliant teacher. But because I finally gave their kids what they actually needed. Not more Bible stories. Not more memory verses. Application. How this connects to their lives. Why it matters when they're scared. What to do when friends pressure them. How to see God in their everyday moments. The same tools I'd been using for 16 years but never put in a format kids could understand on their own. I call it the Bible Study Workbook for Kids because I couldn't think of a better name. It has 52 weeks. One for every week of the year. Genesis to Revelation in a complete journey. The same lessons I handed out that day when everything changed. The same lessons that are now being used by families across the country. Each week includes: - The Bible story in language kids actually understand - Scripture references so they can find it in their own Bible - God's message and key themes - A quick quiz to make sure it sticks - Discussion prompts for families to talk about it together - Hands-on activities that connect it to real life It's written in plain language. The same way I'd explain it if I was sitting with your child. No complicated theology. No seminary terms. Just the connection kids need so that when they face something hard on Monday morning, the Bible they learned on Sunday actually helps them. Because Bible stories are a beautiful thing. But a faith kids can actually LIVE is something else entirely. That's what this workbook was created for. Your child won't remember every VBS program. They won't remember every sermon. But if they learn to connect God's Word to their real life while their hearts are still soft and their faith is still forming? That changes everything. Don't let another Sunday go by where your kids just hear about God. Give them tools to actually walk with Him. And you can get access to it by clicking below.
