Plastic glitter has no place in children's potion kits. We know that's a bold statement. But after 7 years researching ingredients for The Little Potion Co., it's one we're completely comfortable making. Before starting our business we thought all glitter was much the same. It turns out, it's not that simple. That realisation completely changed the way we approached every potion we've created. Instead of asking ourselves, "Which glitter is the cheapest?" we asked, "What happens after the potion is poured away?" Over the past 7 years we have researched so many different glitter materials, how they're made, where they end up after play, and what happens when they're washed down the sink or poured into the garden. That's why we made the decision never to use traditional plastic glitter in our potion kits. Instead, we chose @bioglitter_official , It certainly wasn't the cheapest decision, but if we're creating a product that's designed to be mixed with water and eventually poured away, we believe every ingredient should be chosen with that journey in mind. The reason we're sharing this isn't to make parents feel guilty, or to suggest everyone should already know this. It's because DIY potion recipes are everywhere, and many still recommend adding ordinary craft glitter without ever stopping to ask where it ends up afterwards. We think that's a conversation worth having. Whether you're buying a potion kit or making one at home, we'd encourage you to think about the glitter you're using just as carefully as you think about every other ingredient. Because once you know where a potion finishes its journey, it's hard to look at glitter the same way again.
